BOOSTING MEXICO'S AI POTENTIAL

.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data have the potential to transform the productivity and GDP potential of the Mexican landscape. The transformative effects will be such that PwC estimates the AI market to reach USD70 billion by 2020. The application of digital tools and approaches will empower Mexico to better address the challenges that stem from the country’s diverse and challenging environment for delivering high-quality public services. They will enable the country to better target resources and improve the impact of government programmes.

AI and Big Data can achieve two important objectives for Mexico: a better environment for business innovation, trade and commerce; and opportunities for greater social inclusion both through skills development and more efficient and targeted government services.

Moreover, the development of an AI policy would place Mexico at the global forefront of the field. Only a handful of countries, the United Kingdom, the United States and China, have developed a national policy on AI to date.

WHAT WE ARE DOING ABOUT IT

We are working with Mexican key government officials and other Mexican experts in digital, data and AI in order to assess current progress, spot gaps and opportunities with the aim of co-creating recommendations that are meaningful in addressing Mexico’s most pressing challenges by harnessing the power of disruptive tech. We will also document key case studies and international best practices of innovation programmes driven by new technologies, focusing on the use of Big Data and AI to promote a better business environment and to foster social inclusion. Finally, this initiative will create various spaces for knowledge-exchange opportunities between the United Kingdom and Mexico.

OUR MOONSHOT VISION

We want to take advantage of the impact power of disruptive technologies to increase the quality of life in Mexican cities, starting by working with the government to create policies that strengthen Mexico’s competitiveness and social development. This will be a first step to place Mexico among countries leading the way when it comes to the applications of artificial intelligence for the challenges faced by emerging economies.
