Blockchain for Better Public Services

.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Blockchain promises to transform the world economy. The technology behind bitcoin – an open-source distributed database using cutting-edge cryptography – has the power to facilitate collaborations and the tracking of transactions and general interactions. The idea of net neutrality and transparency, thanks to the distributed ledger, is something that has attracted the curiosity of governments across the world. Blockchain has the potential for cutting costs and time and rendering processes more transparent.

WHAT WE ARE DOING ABOUT IT

Together with our partners, we are working with the Commercial Regulation Unit of the Mexican Ministry of Economy to create a prototype of a digital bonds platform using blockchain.

The lessons learned through this prototype will enable us to share best practices about the use of blockchain to improve other public services.

WHERE & WHEN

Mexico, as of January 2018.

OUR PARTNERS

We are working with the Mexican Ministry of Economy and Oxford Insights, with the support of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office of the British Embassy in Mexico.

OUR MOONSHOT VISION

We want to contribute to the creation of a government that is 100% transparent, agile and able to respond to citizen’s needs in the digital era. One way we can work towards that is by enabling more efficient public services through the use of new technologies such as blockchain.
